Each year, monsoon season brings more than just heavy rains to Bali—it brings plastic pollution. Strong winds and ocean currents push massive amounts of plastic waste from nearby islands and the open sea onto Bali’s shores. This January, Kedonganan Beach was hit particularly hard, with waves dumping tons of plastic debris across its coastline.

The problem isn’t just what washes up—it’s what happens next. As plastic waste piles up, it threatens marine ecosystems, harms wildlife, and leaches toxic chemicals into the environment. If not removed quickly, much of it will be pulled back into the ocean, continuing the cycle of pollution.
